Hemet Senior High School (formerly known as Hemet Union High School until 1965) is a public high school of approximately 2,500 students located in East Hemet, California and is part of the Hemet Unified School District. The school was first founded in 1894 and has been moved to different campus sites in the past. The school has been operating at its present campus site since 1972. Hemet High is accredited by the WASC Accrediting Commission for Schools. The campus has since began construction expansion again and is expected to be completed in 2012.

Notable achievements

Hemet High School's dance team and cheer squad have won national titles. The Academic Decathlon team has won the Riverside County, CA championship 10 years in a row, beaten during the 2008-2009 and 2010-2011 school year by their rival- West Valley High School's Academic Decathlon team. The Mock Trial team made the top eight in its second year and the finals in its third year in the program. The Air Force JROTC unit brings home trophies and awards every year at local competitions. The most popular was their mid-to-late nineties Jazz Band Ensemble.[1] The band has traveled the world from Japan to Italy and has been nationally acclaimed. In 2006, football coach Andy Boynton was named the ABC7 / NFL High School Coach of the Week for Southern California.[2] The Hemet High school MTB team competed in the SoCal League's inaugural season in 2008/9 and finished in 2nd place overall. In the second season of the SoCal league [1] in 2009/10 the team finished in first place as the SoCal Champs! The SoCal League is part of NICA [2].

War losses

Five graduates of Hemet High School have died in the Iraq and Afghan wars. In California, only Buchanan High School in Clovis has lost more graduates.[3]
